MTC Partners with FinDev Canada on USD 60 Million Loan Supporting MSMEs and Women Entrepreneurs in Rural Communities Expanding Access to Finance and Advancing Sustainable Growth

Muangthai Capital Public Company Limited (MTC) continues to strengthen its partnerships with international development finance institutions through the signing of a USD 60 million parallel loan agreement with FinDev Canada, Canada’s development finance institution. The financing will expand access to funding for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), with a focus on women entrepreneurs in rural areas who face barriers to formal financial services. This collaboration underscores MTC’s commitment to financial inclusion and inclusive, sustainable growth in Thailand’s grassroots economy.

The signing ceremony took place on 16 October 2026 at the Official Canadian Residence in Bangkok. Mr. Randeep Sarai, Canada’s Secretary of State for International Development, delivered the opening remarks. Attendees included Ms. Lori Kerr, Chief Executive Officer of FinDev Canada; Mr. Parithad Patcharachai, Chief Executive Officer of MTC; Ms. Amanda Strohan, Ambassador of Canada to Thailand; and representatives from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC).

FinDev Canada’s USD 60 million loan is provided alongside, and is additional to, the USD 200 million A/B syndicated loan facility co-led by ADB and SMBC, bringing the total financing raised under the transaction to USD 260 million. The financing reflects the collaboration between international development finance institutions and leading financial institutions to expand access to funding for entrepreneurs in Thailand.

“We are delighted to partner with FinDev Canada, alongside ADB and SMBC, to expand access to formal financing for women-owned MSMEs, particularly in rural communities across Thailand. This collaboration reflects our shared commitment to financial inclusion and sustainable economic growth, while strengthening MTC’s capacity to serve underserved customers nationwide,” said Mr. Parithad.

MTC continues to expand its loan portfolio in line with its business plan while advancing its ambition to become a “World-class Thai Microfinance” institution. The Company prioritises quality growth, prudent risk management, good corporate governance and shared value creation for all stakeholders. These efforts support access to funding for individuals and entrepreneurs across Thailand and contribute to the sustained growth of the grassroots economy.

In terms of creditworthiness, MTC received its first long-term corporate credit rating of Ba2 from Moody’s Ratings. Fitch Ratings assigned the Company an International Long-Term Issuer Default Rating (IDR) of BB and a National Long-Term Rating of A-(tha), while S&P Global Ratings assigned a long-term issuer credit rating of BB-. All ratings carry a Stable outlook, reflecting credit assessments by three leading international rating agencies.

MTC has also received an “Excellent” corporate governance assessment, equivalent to a five-star CG Rating, and an AA rating under SET ESG Ratings. In addition, the Company received the Best Social Bond Thailand award at The Asset Triple A Awards for Sustainable Finance 2026. These recognitions reflect MTC’s commitment to good governance, sustainable finance and broader access to financial services.

Further strengthening its international relationships, MTC participated in the IMF–World Bank Group Annual Meetings 2026 in Bangkok. During the event, Mr. Parithad met and posed for photographs with Mr. Ajay Banga, President of the World Bank Group, and Mr. Sarvesh Suri, Regional Vice President for Asia and the Pacific at the International Finance Corporation (IFC). These engagements provided an opportunity to strengthen MTC’s relationships with leading global financial institutions and foster cooperation between Thailand’s private sector and international financial institutions.

MTC remains committed to building on these partnerships to expand financial opportunities for farmers, small business owners, women entrepreneurs and individuals who lack adequate access to formal financial services. Through responsible business practices, the Company aims to strengthen small businesses and communities and contribute to the stable, inclusive and sustainable development of Thailand’s grassroots economy.
